South Ribble Educational Seminar

A unique opportunity to meet key industry figures and share, debate and listen to the latest developments was presented to over 40 individuals at the recent seminar in South Ribble.
The day included 6 educational presentations, centred around topical issues relating to the Play Pathfinder agenda, presented by leading independent professionals from across the industry.

Aileen Shackell, lead author of the Play England / DCSF Design for Play guide took us through the document and spoke about incorporating natural elements into successful play design. Roger Davis, RoSPA play inspector spoke about the necessity for risk in play and Don Earley, Deputy Chief Executive of FIT took us through the revised changed to the 6 Acre Standard document; now know as Design & Planning for Outdoor Play.

Following lunch we visited Destination Park Withy Grove, which since it’s opening in 2007 has provided family days out for the local people and for those from surrounding areas.

Feedback from those who attended was really positive and included:

“Really useful and informative, plus it was great to go and visit a fab play area and have a go!”
Liz Glithero, Landscape Architect. Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council

“Wide range of experience and knowledge”.
Robin Durkan, Landscape Architect. Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale
