Welland Park – Destination Park, provided the perfect setting for the recent Educational Study Tour held on the 8th October. These specialist seminars where aimed at addressing key areas of change that will influence play provision for the future.
Keynote speakers included Aileen Shackell – lead author of the recently published Design for Play guide (Play England and the DCSF), Roger Davis, RoSPA play inspector spoke about the necessity for risk in play and Don Earley, Deputy Chief Executive of FIT took us through the revised changed to the 6 Acre Standard document; now know as Design & Planning for Outdoor Play.
The seminar was attended by over 40 delegates and included a site visit out to the newly opened Welland Park Destination Park. Aileen Shackell commented on the play area: "The play space at Welland Park is a good example of a layout in which the equipment and landscape setting have been designed together. This greatly extends the play value of the scheme.”

Feedback from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive and many delegates commented that they rarely get the opportunity to absorb so much valuable, current information in such a digestible format.
