Casestudy: Teen Provision
Client: Sunningdale Parish Council
Budget: £25,500
Age Range: 12 Years Upwards

Client Background
Sunningdale Parish Council had plans to improve the play facilities in the area, providing a recreation area suitable for teenagers.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead recognised the need for teen provision in the community and donated most of the funds for the project. Further funds were raised by Sunningdale Parish Council.
Project Brief
The new teen area was to be a space where the young residents could meet friends and exercise. The plan was to give the young people their own space, and to increase their sense of involvement in the wider community.
Design Solution
The Proludic design for Sunningdale included elements from their Dynamic sports range. These products replicate exhilarating sensations from extreme sports such as rock climbing and windsurfing. The hopes for the site were to promote active participation from young adults and to give them a forum to exert any excess energy.
Proludic were sensitive to the needs of Sunningdale by ensuring the equipment fitted in with the natural environment and surroundings of the village. The equipment is inoffensive to the eye, and of a transparent nature, so does not block the view beyond. The chosen safety surfacing was grassmatt. This surface allows the grass to grow through the mat, providing a natural feel to the site.
Proludic’s design proposal was chosen by public consultation, due to their innovate style and flexible approach to the project.
Teen Area
Dynamic kit, the Twinfly and Rodeoboard provide the teenagers with exhilarating sensations. Replicating dynamic sports, the kit encourages participants to compete with friends and learn new skills.
The Vitality Stamina Unit is an outdoor gym, inviting people of all ages to have a go, at a pace that is comfortable. It includes a rowing machine, bike, bars and a trainer. The equipment is complimented by signage indicating levels of difficulty and the cardiac levels involved.
The popular teen shelter provides a social space for teenagers to get together and chat, further encouraging a sense of ownership of the site.
Outcome
The site was installed in March 2007 and has been a huge success with the community. The teen provision area has further complimented the toddler and junior play park already in place and is regarded as a main attraction of the space.
Anne Martin Parish Clerk for Sunningdale comments,
“The new teen provision area has made a huge difference to young adults within the area. The park is very highly regarded and continues to be well used by the residents”.
